FREE COACHING IDEAS. NO FILLER.

Simple football coaching ideas, habits and questions that can make sessions clearer and help players understand the game.

1. SIMPLE BUILDS CONFIDENCE.

Do not add complexity just to make a drill look advanced. Give players one clear problem, one or two useful details and enough repetition to find the answer.

2. SCAN → OPEN → MOVE

Scan before the ball arrives. Open the body so more of the pitch is visible. Move again after the pass so the player stays connected.

3. PASS → MOVE → SUPPORT

The action is not finished when the ball leaves the foot. Good players move to help the next action.

4. COACH THE FIRST TOUCH WITH A PURPOSE

Do not only ask for a soft first touch. Ask where the first touch should take the player and what picture they saw before receiving.

5. ASK BEFORE YOU TELL

Try questions such as: What did you see? Where was the space? What could you do before the ball arrives? Let the player think before giving the answer.

6. ONE FOCUS IS ENOUGH

Players do not need ten coaching points at once. Decide what the session is really about and keep returning to it.

7. PRAISE THE RIGHT THINGS

Notice effort, bravery, communication, recovery after mistakes and willingness to try again — not only the successful outcome.
